What it is

A native desktop Wardley map editor built around the wmap text syntax — a different DSL from OWM's. Maps are plain text files, so they version-control cleanly, with image export. Being native rather than Electron, it has real macOS integration: Quick Look preview of map files in Finder, iCloud Drive sync for lightweight collaboration, customisable fonts and backgrounds, and smart editing. Completely free — no account, no subscription. It anchors a whole parser/renderer family by the same author: wmap-parser-js (npm), wmap-parser-rust (crates.io), wmap-parser-swift, wmap-parser-c (ANSI C), tree-sitter-wmap (with a bundled Neovim plugin for syntax highlighting), wmap-renderer-canvas, wmap-renderer-svg, wmap-renderer-rust — plus a fedwiki plugin, wiki-plugin-wmap.

Limitations

wmap is not the OWM DSL. This is the single biggest ecosystem fragmentation issue after WTG2: maps authored here do not open in onlinewardleymaps.com, Mermaid, VS Code or Obsidian without conversion. macOS-first with Linux second-class; no Windows, no web. AGPL-3.0 restricts commercial embedding. iCloud "collaboration" is file sync, not real-time co-editing.
